a dark horde gathers
yellow-eyed fiends shriek and swoop –
hidden, she watches
the theft of her evening treat
vengeance and a meal . . . so near

Descriptive enough for a feature film.

Vampires or just bats…OK some cats. Mystery to solve and unanswered questions. Yup a good movie trailer…
Apparently they’re Brewer’s Blackbirds. They are the most evil of things: the avian equivalent of piranha. They live for unattended Meow Mix. One of the wild cats I care for wants get up close and personal with them . . . so . . . very . . . badly.
Ouch. Can’t say I have heard of them. Thanks for your visits.

Ahhhh, I didn’t know this had happened – that would explain some things. Thanks for the heads-up!
I truly love this tanka! This is one of my favorites, love the last line. The cat will have it’s day.
Thank you so much! For the lion’s share of my life, I wasn’t a cat person. But that changed about three years ago when – out of all the houses in the neighborhood – they just started showing up on my doorstep: one after another, after another, after another. They’re a big deal with me now! ;)
I guess you were a cat person, they just needed to show you. ;)
